Kom Ombo temple
|
It was dedicated to two gods, Horus, the hawk-headed god of the morning sun &
Sobek, the crocodile god of Nile fertility. The bend of the river here was once
home to a large number of crocodiles, which were held to be sacred. The crocodiles
have long since gone, thanks to Gucci, Charles Jourdan, Louis Vuitton.
The temple has two of everything, to accommodate the two gods, and among the reliefs
on the walls - mainly from the time of Ptolemy XII at the end of the second century AD -
are detailed medical instruments such tweezers, forceps and various other modern
looking utensils.
